The Imagination Station was part of an exhibit that marked the culmination of my MFA thesis at the School of Visual Arts. The station is supposed to be the physical embodiment of our imagination, comprised of all the comics, records, costumes, toys and colors that inform individual creativity.
Throughout the exhibition, visitors were invited to create illustrations inspired by music, create costumed characters and contribute to a crowd-sourced epic poem, all while watching videos of other workshops in the series.
Steven Smith studied computer science and anthropology in Texas and design and long-form improv comedy in New York. He earned his MFA from the Designer as Author Program at the School of Visual Arts before starting Flux&Render. His work favors a playful, surprising design approach that is rooted in a love of music, performance and laughter.
